Elmer was listed as doing odd jobs and Amy was a laundress at home.67

Children of Elmer and Amy [—?—] Watson known from the 1910 and 1920 federal censuses (all born in Pennsylvania):

80 i. Roscoe4 Watson; born circa 1894. Roscoe was enumerated as a condenser in a milk condensery in 1920, while still living with his parents in Spring Township, Crawford County. In 1930, Roscoe, still living with his parents (but head of household), was a retail merchant of confections and gasoline.68
81 ii. Jolly Watson; born circa 1901; married Bessie [—?—], born circa 1901 in Pennsylvania. Jolly and Bessie were living with Elmer's parents in Spring Township, Crawford County in 1920. In 1930, Jolly was enumerated as single, living with his parents and, like his brother Roscoe, a retail merchant of confections and gasoline. (1) Edith Watson, born circa 1921, was probably Jolly's daughter, since she was living with Jolly and his parents in 1930.

82 iii. Myrtle Watson; born circa 1902.

83 iv. Burton (Bertie) Watson; born circa 1905.

84 v. Donald Watson; born circa 1908. In 1930, he was living in the household of his brother Roscoe. Donald, single, was enumerated as a laborer in a creamery in 1930.

23. ROBERT3 M. WATSON (James2, Robert1); born 4 April 1845 in Allegheny Township, Venango County, died 12 July 1907; buried in Jerusalem Corners Cemetery, near Pleasantville, Oil Creek Township, Pennsylvania; married 31 January 1866 DELILAH SPANGLER, born 4 February 1854 in Pennsylvania; died 29 June 1935.72

In 1880 and 1900, Robert, Delilah and family were living in Oil Creek Township, Venango County, where Robert, in 1900, was enumerated as a day laborer.73 In 1930, Delilah, widow, was living with her son Lewis Manley Watson and his family in Oil Creek Township, Venango County.74

Delilah’s parents were George W. and Rebecca (Casper) Spangler. In 1850, George, born circa 1823, and Rebecca, born circa 1832, were living alone in Cherrytree Township. After George Spangler’s first wife, Rebecca, died,75 George married Salinda Renninger (Reninger),76 who at the time was a widow.77 George Spangler mentioned in his will78 wife Salinda, sons Marion Spangler and George W. B. Spangler (he was probably the G. B. Spangler who married Lina Steele, an adopted daughter of William and Susan Dunham), and daughters (with the exception of Delilah and Phoebe, they would probably be by second wife, Salinda) Delilah Watson, Phoebe Birtcil, Emma Bleaksley, Elizabeth? Lyons, Fannie Fasmeyers,79 Elizabeth Spangler, Flora Spangler and Bessie Spangler.

George W. Spangler’s parents possibly were George Spangler, born circa 1776–1783 and Elizabeth [—?—], born circa 1776.80 This from Venango County (Pennsylvania) Records, Volume I, 1987, by Venango County Genealogical Club: “A single grave along the Buxton Road, Cherrytree Township, Venango County: George Spangler; died October 5, 1851, aged 75 years.”
From Babcock (1919), page 1037–1038:
… James and Susan (McConnell) Watson, grandparents of Lewis Manley Watson, were early residents of northern Venango county, but spent the latter part of their lives in Crawford county. Their son Robert Watson was born April 4 1845, in Oil Creek township. Venango county, five miles southeast of Titusville, where he was reared and educated. He continued to reside here after the removal of his parents to Crawford county, and married a girl from the same neighborhood, his union with Delilah Spangler taking place Jan. 31, 1866. Her parents, George W. and Rebecca (Casper) Spangler, lived in the old homestead at Jerusalem Corners (two miles west of Pleasantville), and her grandfather, John Spangler [this might be an error, see above], had settled about 1830 in Cherrytree township, this county, some twelve miles farther west. He died there … Robert Watson spent much of his business life as a pumper in the oil fields, and in that capacity he came in 1893 to the lease in Oil Creek township now operated by his sons, a part of the John Tallman farm. He himself never owned any interest there, but pumped the wells on that farm for H. J. Rowe, of Titusville, until about a year before his death, when his sons O. H. and L. M. Watson took up the work. They acquired the oil rights after their father’s death, and recently purchased the property. It lies in what is now known as the Shamburg field, lying a mile south of the defunct village of Shamburg once the site of great oil activities, and here he continued in the production of oil until his death, which occurred July 12, 1907. He and his wife reared a family of six children, namely: Melvina L. is the wife of Hiram A. Voorus, of Oil Creek township, mentioned elsewhere in this work; Samuel is now in the Oklahoma oil fields; Delbert D., who died at the age of thirty–four years, was a pumper during the greater part of his life, for the last eight years in West Virginia; Oliver Herman assists his brother in the care of the lease; Linnie Elizabeth is the wife of George Shaw, of Pleasantville; Lewis Manley completes the family. Oliver Herman Watson … [see below].

90 iv. Oliver Herman Watson; born 4 April 1875; died 17 August 1940; married Grace Weekley, born 1883; died August 1944. No children. Herman was blind from age 14. In 1910, Herman was living with his mother and brother, Lewis Manley Watson; Oliver was enumerated as a broom maker.81

From Babcock (1919), page 1038:
… Oliver Herman Watson, now 42 years old, has been totally blind from the age of fourteen years, but as is often the case his other facilities are particularly keen, and in spite of his affliction he has been able to render valuable assistance to his brothers in their operations. He is well read, and keeps abreast of the times in all matters of general interest. He is just as thoroughly acquainted with the development and operation of oil property as his brother L. M. Watson, but owing to his affliction is unable to work out his knowledge unaided. He is also a broommaker, having learned the trade in Philadelphia in the school for the blind there, but owing to the high price of material and factory competition he does not follow this business, as he would have to operate at a loss.
